Set in Key West, this film dives into the island’s heartbeat by exploring its motto, “One Human Family.” By weaving together voices all across the island —from service workers to retirees—it examines whether this call for unity is truly lived or merely echoed, and challenges us to confront our own biases while imagining what genuine togetherness could look like.
It’s time to connect this one human family.
What is this all about?
This team of local filmmakers aims to bring awareness to the different versions of life in Key West experienced by folks across the island. Our city motto “One Human Family” is a beautiful ideal but many residents feel that it may not always include them. Does this phrase contribute to a glossing over and turning away from the difficult truths that exist here? How can we get closer to living by our motto? This film begins that process by making unlikely connections to expand our perspectives and our understandings of each other.
Who is behind the project?
Antonio “Hollywood” Allen, Jose Davila, and Martha Hooten-Hattingh come together for their first collaboration with “Paradise Reflected: Connecting This One Human Family”. These 3 locals come from 3 different Key West communities and backgrounds but all 3 have deep connections to and love for this place. Together they are working to create a film that each and every human on this island will be able to see themselves reflected in.
